Bedford Tigers ‘A’ 6 Brentwood EELS 46 (East Division 1) 14th June 2014 By Anthony Sherwood

With a few squad members away Brentwood were still positive as they took to the road for the first time in their history away to Bedford. A physical start was needed and produced by Brentwood being tested early on strong runners being sent towards the Eels line, but great defense forced handling errors for the home side which allowed Brentwood to have a first attack lead and finished by Eels powerful Centre Jon Wylie for the first Eels away points.

The Home side showed some great fight but a slip of attention and poor defense led to the home team having the first and last score of the game. Winger Preye Knogha entered the fold, with some elusive side stepping and strong running notched down two tries which Charlie Chambers converted leaving his tally 3 out 3 and the half time score 18-6.

With Charlie Chambers eventually given the go-ahead to get it wide early on from Coach Anthony Sherwood, the flood gates opened some Great game control from Chambers ended with Callum Whitcombe dotting down in the corner with a Pre-Determined move. From the Kick off a great Set was played with great carry’s from Josh Woodcock, Cameron Furlong and ended with Tom Riches cut a perfect line to Brush off 4 defenders and dot down just to right hand side of the posts

Confidence on the up from Big Defense and Attacking Running, This forced Bedford to kick from their own half on three attempts after Man of the Match Mike Hogan who was outstanding again
Under the high ball and in defense and was gifted two tries for his efforts. 17 yr old Callum Whitecombe made sure he wasn’t the only player in the back three not scoring two tries on the day with an explosive run scored freely under the posts.

A Note able Performance from half back Joe Heavey got Brentwood out of trouble a few times with handy footwork and solid defense. Close up Man of the Match Prop Calvin Bradley who’s ball carrying is growing with his confidence each week was given the ball just inside Brentwood’s own half brushing off 2 initial attackers then Maori Side stepping Bedford’s Brave fullback then outpaced a winger to score under the posts!

Eels building the gap at the top of the league move their focus to the shield next week which should prove to be a great challenge against Premiership outfit Southend Spartans!
