North Herts Crusaders 4-46 Brentwood Eels

After a fantastic break week celebrating the The Challenge Cup at Wembley we find ourselves on the road again with half the squad making the most of the summer holidays our depth is tested in a familiar fixture, we welcomed back an old face is Max Goodbourn as well as two brand new Eels... Callum Smith back from Army RL and usual club photographer Connor Huggins making their SCL debut and becoming part of the clubs history this weekend!

#158 Callum Smith
#159 Connor Huggins

With Eels racking up their highest score of the season in the reverse fixture at home, the team were optimistic to on outcome of the days game after coming ever so close last week away to Hammermsith. Brentwood opened the scoring after a slow first 15 minutes when we cut through the middle of the hosts with a strong run from Callum Whitcombe and support from the ever present Connor Gascoigne lead to an easy dot down under the sticks. Eels then had a several moments of madness individually giving away four back to back penalties which lead to a sin binning and an easy score for North Herts. Brentwood improved their completion in the last twenty minutes scoring another two tries including a sublime back to back try from kick off finished in style by Harry Crellin who grabbed his first meat pie for the club to end the Half 4-16 in favor of the visiting Eels.

The second half started similar to the first with Brentwood starting slowly and lacking discipline giving North Herts some much wanted ball albeit nullified by strong Brentwood defense. The last twenty minutes was again where the Eels finally clicked into gear scoring a scorching six tries and showing some great attacking play straight from the training paddock. This was epitomized by the final play of the game where we kept the ball alive to score under the posts and wrap the scoring up at 4-46, a total of 100 points scored against Crusaders this calendar year is a huge sign of improvement from last years campaign.

This spices things up for the playoffs as we host Bristol All Golds on Saturday 2nd September where points difference will not come into fruition only the winners on the day will proceed to playoffs, earning an away trip to Wests Warriors on 9th September.
