Bristol All Golds 28-16 Brentwood Eels

Our first time playing Bristol All Golds was to be away the 300+ mile round trip was definitely a new but exciting challenge for the club and players, albeit an expensive one!

Our Captain Jamie Impey who has a knack for aligning appearance milestones with key fixtures for the club was also looking to make his 70th for the club, the first at the club to do so. With a few injuries amassing in the SCL Squad this made way for some youth products to grab their heritage numbers!

The first team to draw blood was the home side All Golds and shortly after our captain left the field after four minutes due to injury, which sort of set the tone for a cat and mouse affair with Eels following up shortly after after some great shape that put the ever present Euan Tiernan through a gap that Callum Whitcombe read well with support. Bristol then hit back before the halfway mark to take the lead 12-6 at the break.

Brentwood's albeit mostly because of our own errors with the ball was outstanding at points in the second half forcing the home side under pressure which led to a lot of frustration. A great kick left the All golds Fullback in pressure, followed up by a great kick chase George Harkins found himself scoring from nothing after a loose carry to make it 12-12.

This pressure later saw the home side face two yellow cards in quick succession. A compound error and penalty gave All Golds a chance to take the lead again at 16-12. We capitalized immediately and got the scores back level to 16-16 finally making the most of the extra man. The last 20 is where the Eels stepped up their defensive efforts even more forcing knock on after knock on, we just didn't have the same killer instinct with the ball to see the game off with carbon copy tries coming from loose carries or kicks from two scrums leaving Bristol's winger with easy run ins to take the game out of reach late on.

No fixture on 24th June a BYE week in the SCL calendar means we kick off the second half of the season with back to back home games v Chargers 1st July and rhinos 8th July respectively.
