Eels crusade past North Herts!

Get to 50… we go from scoring 0 last week to record breaking 50+ against our old East RL friends. The half way mark is near and the season has definitely taken its toll, especially with the earlier start due to the challenge cup this year, So we had 12+ Injured or unavailable from our SCL Squad alone... which means one good thing, Brand new Eels!

Two young gun teenage edges, from our youth getting a call up after strong performances last week with our A grade and 17 yr old Ben Stokes opened the scoring in the Eels first set from Kick off and his first touch, not a bad way to make Debut! Ben later double his tally and not to be out done on the right edge young Joe Guttridge nabbed two on debut also!

Even though the Eels were completing more sets there was still errors allowing North Herts back into the game form our Brentwood side who learnt another valuable lesson in "playing the whistle" where the referee also was victim to the sun and heat having officiated two games on the day. The Eels still finished the first half comfortably 26-12 ahead with the Tiernan brothers adding one a piece as well.

As much as we improved from the week before in the first half we improved again especially putting pressure on our opposition in defence and being ruthless with the ball. It still wasn't a perfect half with the heat massively effecting concentration at points we gave the ball up easily at time for North Herts to take some fairly well earned consolation Try's led by their Hooker who didn't give up all game and showed some decent sportsmanship in a fixture that has previously had some spice.

Rhys Cotter celebrated his first try as he takes a break from the season to travel the USA but a trademark slippery eels exit wasn't too late to help Eamon Tiernan complete his hat trick and crusade the eels past 50 points for the first time in the SCL.
