This fixture was our first ever in tier 4 SCL last year where we come out second best 28-50 in what was a close encounter but both sides were different teams now. Even though the overall points difference has remained the same it doesn't really paint the picture of what was a solid test match worthy of State of Origin week.
Our opponent made up mostly of Aussie expats only fielded three English players out of their Match day 17. Therefore, it was always going to be about experience on the day and after a tough arm wrestle for the first 20/30 minutes in each half it was the Eels that cracked first on both occasions letting Hammersmith score some easy looking scores. However, we cannot discredit the amount of effort the team put in to defence, even if it was mostly our own doing through not completing sets.
Some stand out performances from Captain Jamie Impey and 18yr old Sam Winney on debut, who was a solid force both sides of the ball throughout the game we just did't make menses of their yardage.
