Wests Warriors 50-12 Brentwood Eels

A week after the Eels record their highest win in the Southern Conference league they are hit with a similar scoreline on the road. Our squad was looking good in training in the week even with four unavailable from the previous match day squad the depth was ready to be tested. That was until we had a freak Injury in training to Harry Pyke (ankle) at hooker which meant half of our spine was now altered. That wasn't the end to changes as two more dropouts meant Eels started the game with 16 players.

Warriors made a fast start forcing a penalty early only to catch a middle napping for their first try. After this Eels had a solid bout of possession but didn't come away with any points with a disallowed try followed by a coast to coast effort from Warriors after a loose ball was picked up, to make matters worse Stan Pyke left the field with a knee injury which could end his season. 60 minutes to go with no named hooker was always going to effect our play but the Eels rallied before half time and created a good three scoring opportunities only to be scuppered by some unforced errors. Warriors sealed of the half capitalizing on those with two more tries to make it 20-0.

Eels started fast in the second half scoring of their first set, Georgie Treffers the quickest to pounce on Rhys Cotter grubber. Momentum shifted again as the Brentwood Eels Middles switched off or less than a few minutes and back to back tries were conceded, one even from kick off making it 28-6. Eels fired back of the kick off to score form first phase and cut Warriors open easily. However, the same story unfolded with Eels having bulk of possession up to the 60 minute mark but compound errors leading to another Warriors quick double. Even though we didn't complete a set in the last 20, Warriors were starting to niggle as the game was competitive all day and Warriors rarely broke down the eels in normal play, this led to a reaction from their no.17 Josh Wall who had not one but two attempts of the ball at Rhys Cotter who earlier stripped him 1v1. On the second attempt the referee rightfully sin binned him but he wasn't finished their and come back on for more but was upgraded to Red for his troubles.
