With the Eels almost at full strength it was always going to be a tough match for the inexperienced Spartans. After some uncharacteristic mistakes early on the Eels woke-up and really began to control the game both in attack and defence. With some solid hits and powerful running from our forwards (Petrie, Davies, Duffy, Jowers and Murphy) the Eels began to really make in-roads into the Spartans red zone with Owen Dew terrorising the opposition with his barnstorming runs down his channel. It was only a matter of time before Brentwood crossed the line and it was that man Dew who was first over. Douglas and the impressive Valentini also crossed before Dew scored a further two to obtain his hat-trick. Horsman then showed some finesse as he stepped and weaved through the opposition defence to score under the posts. Ethan Richardson also put himself in a great position to receive the ball at pace out wide to dive over for a well deserved try. It was a good solid performance but hopefully our next match will be a bit tougher as the side need to prepare for their annual participation in the Leeds Rhinos Challenge.

At half-time the Coaches decided that it would be best to call the game with the score as it was and play a training match. This would provide an opportunity for a more competetive game. The match was a much closer affair with all the boys playing with a smile on their face. I'm sure the Spartans will progress as their are some good players in their ranks and they all have great character. A big thanks to the Spartans for hosting us.
