Over the years both sets of players have fought some fantastic matches and really respect each other. This was no different and once again we all witnessed a closely fought contest. I won't go into an in-depth analysis of the match but suffice to say the lead changed hands several times. The defence from the Eels was well disciplined and the Panthers were regularly repelled as the boys tackled in groups preventing any off-loads.
Unfortunately the attack let us down with some poor decision making leading to cheap turnovers in our red zone. We also let ourselves down in potential try scoring situations. Thankfully the Panthers seemed to be making similar errors leading to Rob from Invicta and myself wondering what was going on!
With the game at 12 apiece it looked like a draw was on the cards but little Ollie from the Panthers put over a drop goal giving them the advantage. As the game was drawing to a close and the Eels pushing hard Invicta took advantage of our desperation and scored a breakaway try.
Cameron Petrie, Louis Duffy, Rian and Billy D played exceptionally well with our new lad Miles showing some promise. It was also nice to welcome back Tyler Ford from injury.
Both teams appeared to be evenly matched and I'm sure they will be difficult to beat this season. The Eels just need to respect possession, go through their sets and apply pressure.
