Rugby League Season Suspended - Club Statement 2020

Mark Baker17 Mar 2020 - 20:07

Due to Coronavirus the league season has been suspended until the 3rd April

CLUB STATEMENT
CORONAVIRUS 2020
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic all Ruby League activities have been cancelled until the 3rd April. This includes training as well as matches.
At a meeting between the Rugby Football League and the Super League the decision was made that all rugby activities scheduled to take place from this weekend (21st -22nd March) until 3rd April 2020 be postponed across all competitions including the Championship, League 1, Betfred Women’s Super League and the community game.
Whilst this will have an impact on the club we realise that each and everyone one of us must support Her Majesty’s Government in trying to combat the spread of the virus and the stopping of league activities will play a part in this.

Please see below for the statement from the RFL

Dear Colleague
As you know, the Rugby Football League and Super League Europe yesterday announced a suspension of fixtures in the Betfred SuperLeague season, initially until 3rd April, during which time the season’s structure and fixture rescheduling will be considered.
These changes also apply across ALL other competitions including the Championship, League 1, Betfred Women’s Super League and the whole community game.
PLEASE NOTE that this is ALL Rugby League activity – training, games, festivals, sessions, courses etc.
The RFL will also reschedule coach education courses over the coming weeks.
The RFL has consistently followed the Government’s advice – and this is the latest Government advice regarding social distancing, and mass gatherings.
These are challenging times for everyone in the Rugby League family and across the country. The RFL and Rugby Leagues Cares are working together with clubs to look at ways in which the sport can help in our communities; indeed some of this has already started.
As well as working on competitions structures and fixture rescheduling with you, we will do the following to support the community game:
• Make more Rugby League coaching, learning and fun resources available to coaches and clubs, parents and children – focused on staying healthy and well and engaged
◦ Look out for great content, quizzes, competitions and prizes for children and young people, and for adults
• Work with RLWC2021 and make sure that everyone in Rugby League and our wider communities can access the new Mental Fitness Charter resources
• We have a full programme of great Rugby League content lined up for Our League and rugby-league.com
◦ Look out for great matches like England v Tonga semi-final from RLWC2017
We are also working with Sport England and Government to communicate the pivotal role played by community clubs in society and the financial impact in the short and medium term on clubs. Marc Lovering (Participation and Development Director) is looking for clubs to get in touch and share information on the likely impact on revenues etc. Please do help us to make the strongest possible case for our sport. Email Marc.Lovering@rfl.uk.com
The welfare of everyone involved and getting ready for the return of the sport is key now and over the weeks ahead. Our responsibilities to Rugby League communities remain front of mind for all of us.
Take care

Ralph
