The Eels came flying out the blocks, with their strong forward pack of Nathan Raffle, William Hammond, Raymond Kanyasa & Malachy Watts Adams crashing into & through the Eagles line, making good metres & sizing themselves up against their opposite numbers.
Twenty metres out Brentwood hit the shape, with Jacob Smith feeding Archie Holding in the halves, who put it out the back to Dylan Marshall, who ran a hardline before releasing Ben Kennedy in the centres who slid over to open the Eels account.
Eels 4 Eagles 0
Brentwood were respecting the ball in the wet conditions, switching the attack to the golden right edge, quick hands saw Harry Crellin break the line, offloading in the tackle to Ollie Woods on the wing, who turned on the afterburners to score in the corner.
Eels 8 Eagles 0
Elmbridge came back strong & despite some committed Eels defence, the Eagles moved the ball wide to score in the corner just before the break.
HT Eels 8 Eagles 4
Elmbridge kicked off with a short & high Union style restart, Ollie Woods leapt high above three Eagles players to take the ball, before crashing to the ground.....an incredible take.
Unfortunately a forward pass gave Elmbridge the field position needed & they made full use of it, crashing over to take the lead.
Eels 8 Eagles 10
The Eagles tails were up & they were in full flight, attacking wide Kieran Mooney held them up just short, but the Eagles had a roll on & dotted down on the next play to extend their lead.
Eels 8 Eagles 16
Two scores down the momentum of the game had shifted & Brentwood needed to get their hands on the ball.
A great kick off from Holding saw Elmbridge knock on & it was just the break Brentwood needed, unloading their heavy artillery to soften up the middle, quick hands from Charlie Brand released our French Flyer Rohann Bankole to take us close, before Jacob Smith powered over to score.... with Archie Holding kicking the extras.
Eels 14 Eagles 16
2 point ball game & it was all to play for, Brentwood showed good composer to move downfield against a spirited & determined Eagles defence, there was some huge collisions & powerful leg drives from Raymond Kanyasa & Malachy Watts Adams, which gave the Eels just the platform they needed, Jacob Smith seized the moment jumping out of dummy half showing good footwork & a strong fend to slide over the stripe for his brace & the Eels lead.....Archie Holding kicked the extras.
Eels 20 Eagles 16
As the boys got water onboard, we talked about that try meaning nothing, unless we completed the next set & got some good field position, the boys didn't disapoint, with Hammond & Raffle making great yards with some powerful carries, twenty metres out the Eels had hit the middle & now they hit the shape, Findlay Gilmour playing in the halves took the ball at pace, attacked the line with runners all around him, he threw the dummy & slid over to score......Archie Holding kicked the extras.
Eels 26 Eagles 16
With 9 minutes remaining, the Eels showed real maturity controlling the game with a patient build up which frustrated the Eagles & saw them give away two penalties both deep into the respective sets for ripping out the ball. Just 5 metres out from the Eagles tryline, Brentwood released an unrelenting barrage of hard running forwards one play at a time, a brave effort from Elmbridge was undone as the ball was shipped a little wider to Will Hammond who took it at pace & ran straight over the top of an ever tiring Elmbridge defence to score......Archie Holding kicked the extras.
